A VRC or Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor is designed to quickly and safely transport goods and materials between multiple floor levels. While they are similar to elevators, a VRC is specifically intended for moving freight or cargo, rather than people. They serve as a safer and more cost-effective alternative to forklifts and are capable of handling heavier loads. They offer flexibility in carriage size, capacity, and traffic patterns, making them ideal for high-speed, multi-level transport to mezzanines, rack storage systems, or upper levels.
There are different configurations of VRCs available. Mechanical VRCs are a safe, easy, and cost-effective solution for transporting products from one elevation to another. They typically have a longer lifespan and a wider range of lifting capabilities compared to hydraulic VRCs, making them ideal for high-speed, high-cycle, or automated systems. These conveyors can handle loads ranging from 10 pounds to over 100,000 pounds and can be configured for C, Z, or L loading patterns. They come in various platform sizes and capacities and can be floor-mounted or pit-mounted, making them suitable for multiple-level stops.
There are two primary types of mechanical VRCs:
- Mechanical Cantilever VRC: 2-post configuration and is suitable for applications requiring faster speed to transport material between levels
- Mechanical Straddle VRC: 2-straddle configuration and is ideal for high-speed/high travel through a mezzanine floor
Hydraulic VRCs utilize hydraulic cylinders to drive the lift, making them an affordable and efficient option for two-level lifting. These conveyors are engineered for level carriage movement and stability, and they can be used both indoors and outdoors. Although hydraulic models may not offer the same level of versatility or longevity as mechanical VRCs, they are less expensive and can still be customized to meet specific needs. They provide high-speed applications for transporting materials from one level to another while maintaining optimal throughput.
