Cantilever Rack

Total Useable Space

Cantilever rack is a specialized storage system designed to hold longer, bulky materials that are difficult to store on conventional systems. These racks are ideal for medium to heavy-duty applications and come with a variety of load capacities. They can efficiently store items that are not easily palletized, such as pipes, lumber, beams, steel rods, and furniture. This makes them perfect for materials that are challenging to transport and require accessible, low-density storage.

Cantilever rack has no vertical obstructions, making it suitable for storing oversized items. While they are not the best choice for palletized loads and can be more susceptible to damage from forklifts, they can be configured to enhance product visibility and improve the loading and retrieval process. Additionally, cantilever racks are highly durable and can be used in various settings, including outdoor applications for storing raw materials, such as commercial lumber or pipes. By maximizing floor space, cantilever rack helps warehouses operate more efficiently and can increase overall throughput.

Cantilever rack is available in various sizes and configurations to fit different storage needs, including heavy-duty structural I-beam and roll-formed options. Proper planning around requirements is crucial to maximize storage density and efficiency.

Structural I-Beam racking is built with structural I-beams for strength and durability, providing high capacity without deflection. They are available in single-sided and double-sided systems, with adjustable arms that can be bolted to the uprights. Single-sided cantilever rack is ideal for storing materials against a wall and are accessible from one side, while double-sided racks can be accessed from both sides, saving horizontal space and reducing forklift damage. Structural racks can also support a roof or canopy for outdoor applications and are more resistant to accidental forklift damage. They are suitable for automated retrieval systems and can be designed to be taller and carry heavier loads compared to roll-formed racking

Roll-formed racking is typically used for lighter storage applications. It can support weights ranging from 150 to 500 pounds per arm for light duty, 500 to 1,500 pounds per arm for medium duty, and up to 1,500 to 5,000 pounds per arm for heavy duty applications. It is highly modular and allows for additional units to be added to create rows. The arms are adjustable on the column in small increments (+/- 4″) to customize storage for a variety of inventory. Roll-form racking is typically not compatible with structural steel cantilever components because of the attachment mechanisms.

These systems consist of:

  • Bases: Anchor the rack system to the floor and connect the uprights, offering stability
  • Upright Columns: Connect to the bases and have pre-punched holes where the arms are attached, creating storage levels. These uprights can be used for single or double-sided units
  • Arms: Attach to the upright columns and are used to store the products. They can be adjusted to different lengths and configurations
  • Braces: Provide support to the upright columns, ensuring stability.
  • Decking: Optional solid shelves that can be added to certain applications for additional support.
