The Customer
A leading medical services and supply company needed an efficient storage solution to support its growing operations. In addition to distributing products to its own network of laboratories the customer also serves a wide range of external clients. Their inventory profile includes a relatively limited number of SKUs, but each SKU requires significant pallet storage capacity. With reliability, organization, and efficiency being critical in the medical supply chain, they needed a solution that could maximize density while ensuring easy access to multiple products.
The Problem
The customer’s existing facility was not originally designed as a warehouse, creating significant challenges for storage. Tight floor space, building columns, and other structural obstacles limited their options. They required a system that would store a high volume of pallets in a high-density configuration, while still offering selectivity for multiple SKUs. The challenge was finding a way to create enough pallet positions without major facility renovations, all while maintaining smooth operations in a fast-paced distribution environment.
The Solution
Atlantic Installation designed and installed a 4-deep by 2-high push-back rack system that provided (80) total pallet positions across (20) unique SKU locations. This system fit neatly within the constraints of the building, weaving between columns and other obstacles. Push-back racking offered the ideal balance of density and selectivity, allowing pallets to be stored multiple deep while still giving operators access to a variety of SKUs. The end result was a cost-effective, high-density storage solution that transformed the facility into a more efficient and organized distribution hub, without the need for expansion.
